The Nautilus 5740/1G-001 marked a significant milestone for Patek Philippe in 2018, becoming the first Grand Complication within the collection. Bringing a perpetual calendar to the Nautilus was a notable departure from its traditionally sportier complications, yet the reference retains the remarkably slim proportions associated with the original design. At just 8.42mm thick, it is Patek Philippe's thinnest perpetual calendar, despite housing one of the manufacture's most sophisticated mechanisms.

Much of this achievement comes from the ultra-thin Calibre 240 Q, which uses a recessed 22k gold micro-rotor to accommodate the perpetual calendar without adding unnecessary thickness. The mechanism automatically accounts for varying month lengths and leap years, requiring no calendar correction until 2100, provided the watch remains running. Its three subdials display the calendar indications and moon phases against the Nautilus's characteristic horizontally embossed blue dial.
