The Patek Philippe Nautilus 5980R-001 marked the arrival of the collection’s flyback chronograph in rose gold, pairing the precious metal case with an leather strap rather than the traditional integrated bracelet. Released in 2010, four years after the original stainless steel chronograph, this execution introduced a brown gradient dial with a contrasting silver-toned counter at 6 o’clock. 

The chronograph’s distinctive single counter combines elapsed minutes and hours within three concentric scales, avoiding the multiple subdials typically associated with the complication. Its self-winding movement uses a vertical disc clutch that allows the central chronograph hand to run continuously as a seconds display without excessive wear, while the flyback function enables an immediate reset and restart of the timing mechanism.
