Some watch designs belong in the past. Others deserve to be worn for another generation. The Vacheron Constantin Historiques 1100S/000G-H175 falls firmly into the latter, reviving the reference 6073 of 1955 and the distinctive design language that made the original so memorable.

The 36.5mm white gold case is defined by its sculptural teardrop lugs, flowing seamlessly from the case rather than simply attaching to it. A stepped bezel frames the silver-toned dial, where applied faceted hour markers, dauphine hands and a recessed small seconds display create depth without making the design feel busy. There is detail everywhere you look, but nothing feels unnecessary.

Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback is the manually wound calibre 4400 AS, developed and manufactured entirely in-house. Carrying the Hallmark of Geneva, it offers approximately 65 hours of power reserve while showcasing the level of finishing expected from one of Switzerland’s oldest continuously operating watch manufactures.

The Historiques doesn’t rely on nostalgia to justify its place in Vacheron Constantin’s collection. More than 70 years after the original appeared, its proportions, dial and distinctive case architecture still work. There is very little here that needed reinventing, and Vacheron Constantin was smart enough not to try.
